So This is Christmas

Wow, it has been a wild and wacky Christmas! We had a full house because my niece from Hawaii came to live with us, her brother got a two week Christmas vacation from the Army to stay with us. We have had so much fun playing games, going bowling (I sucked real bad), having dishtowel fights, hurling insults, putting together gingerbread houses, shopping, watching movies and eating lots of butter. I don't know what it is about this family I married into but they have some kind of Butter Gene that makes their bodies shut down without mass quantities of the stuff!
It is so awesome to have these kids back (they moved away when B was a few months old, then came to live with us for a year or two and recently have been out of touch for a year or so). My niece is so funny and crazy and smart as a whip! And my nephew- we are just so proud of the man he has become. And to see him being so sweet to my girls just melts my heart. He is going to be a good daddy one day.
Today we went to Huntington Beach State park- one of my favorite places in the world. It's this beautiful expanse of marshes, trails, and beach with this Spanish Mission style castle where the Huntington family lived during the depression right on the beach. I have played in that castle for more than 30 years. I know every nook and cranny. I still have a hard time picturing what it would have been like furnished and with a family living there.
It is the best place to play hide and seek, which we did, so many corners and doors and cubbies to hide in. I freaked quite a few people out who thought I was a statue! WTF?

Middle hallway in the courtyard of the castle. This is their Rockband pose!

Niece being all Emo sitting on the bathtub in the housekeepers bathroom at the castle.

Our "little" nephew (this boy/man was born after my hubby and I started dating, now look at him. Makes me feel a little old!). Behind him is the courtyard of the castle.

Sorry I have been away so long, but I have been relishing every minute with my family. More to come soon!
